Rooted in Tradition, Growing for the Future

Bonga University (BoU) is a premier public higher education institution located in the heart of the Kaffa Zone, Southwest Ethiopia the legendary birthplace of Arabica Coffee.

Foundation & Establishment

Officially established in 2015 (2007 E.C.) by the Federal Council of Ministers, BoU was born from a national vision to ensure equitable access to education. It stands as a "4th Generation" university, designed to spark regional development and innovation.

2016: Academic Launch

Teaching began with 1,500 pioneer students and 14 undergraduate programs across four foundational colleges.

2019-2023: Specialization

Launched the historic Coffee Science & Technology degree, connecting academia to Kaffa's global coffee legacy.

Bonga sits within a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve. Our curriculum isn't just theoretical; it is deeply intertwined with the natural resource management of the surrounding lush, green forests. This unique placement allows our students to study agriculture and environmental sciences in a living laboratory.
