Biography
Dr. Afework Wondimu is a Lecturer at Bonga University in Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Awurada Town in the Keffa Zone, his path to academia is rooted in a deep commitment to learning and community.
Throughout his primary, secondary, and preparatory education, he consistently ranked first in his class. In 2019, he began his studies in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at Jimma University.
As a student, Afework was actively involved beyond the classroom. He participated in trainings, workshops and seminars like those on One Health and Zoonosis, often led by international experts. His campus leadership was marked by managing the British Council and European Union-supported project, “Unmasking Misinformation for Peace Building,” an experience for which he received recognition for both leadership and successful completion.
He graduated from Jimma University in 2025. His final research project investigated the “Prevalence and Associated Factors of Bovine Dictyocaulosis in and Around Bonga Town,” a study that connects directly to the local context where he now teaches.
At Bonga University, he applies his skills as a researcher and project leader to educate new veterinarians. He is particularly focused on improving veterinary public health, fighting antimicrobial resistance, and boosting livestock productivity in the South West Ethiopia region.
