Brief Description of Academic Background

Mulugeta Gebreyohannis is an Ethiopian academic and legal professional with more than twelve years of experience in higher education teaching, legal practice, research, and university administration. He is currently a Lecturer in the Law Department at Bonga University, where he teaches and supervises courses in Criminal Law, Human Rights, and Legal Systems.

He earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Jimma University in 2013 and later completed his Master of Laws (LL.M) in Criminal Justice System and International Human Rights at Wolaita University in 2017. His postgraduate studies strengthened his academic expertise in criminal justice reform, human rights protection, and international legal frameworks.

Prior to his academic career, Mr. Mulugeta served as a Public Prosecutor in the South West Ethiopia Regional State, particularly in Kaffa and Sheka Zones, for over four and a half years. This professional legal practice provided him with strong practical insight into criminal prosecution, judicial processes, and justice administration, which he integrates into his teaching and research.

In addition to teaching and research, he has held several key leadership and administrative positions at Bonga University. He is the Founder and former Head of the Law Department, where he led curriculum design, departmental establishment, and academic staffing. He also founded and directed the Continuing Education Program Directorate, significantly expanding access to higher education for adult learners and marginalized communities. Furthermore, he served as Head of Contract Administration, overseeing procurement, contract negotiation, and compliance in accordance with Ethiopian law and public governance standards.

His academic and professional career reflects a strong commitment to quality legal education, institutional development, and socially responsive scholarship, particularly in multicultural and minority contexts.
