Biography

My name is Getachew Adane Tsebelu, and I am a dedicated educator and researcher currently serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education at Bonga University. Based within the College of Social Science and Humanities, my work is driven by a fundamental belief that education should be accessible, equitable, and empowering for all individuals, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.
I hold an MA in Special Needs and Inclusive Education, College of Education, which serves as the foundation for my experience in the higher education sector. My career at Bonga University began in March 2021 as an Assistant Lecturer. My commitment to the growth of our academic community led to my appointment as Department Head from April 2023 to January 2024. In this leadership capacity, I oversaw academic quality and advocated for the integration of inclusive practices at the administrative level an experience that significantly sharpened my skills in strategic planning and academic leadership.
As of August 2025, I have continued my tenure as a Lecturer, balancing instructional duties with a multifaceted role in student support. Beyond the classroom, I am actively engaged in mentoring as a research advisor for undergraduate students, guiding them through the complexities of academic inquiry. I am also deeply committed to the holistic success of my students through professional counseling, providing the academic and personal guidance necessary to navigate the challenges of higher education.
In the classroom, I strive to cultivate a generation of educators who are empathetic, skilled, and advocacy-oriented. I have had the privilege of designing and delivering a range of undergraduate courses, including:
• Introduction to Special Needs and Inclusive Education
• Inclusiveness
• Assessment in Special Needs and Inclusive Education
• Education of Students with Intellectual Disabilities
• Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
• Education of Children with Vulnerability and Early Intervention
Beyond teaching and mentorship, I view my role as a mission to influence policy and practice within Ethiopia’s education system. My ultimate goal is to ensure that "inclusion" is not just a buzzword, but a lived reality for every student.
