Biography

Mengistu Mella Meko was born on 05/12/1975 E.C. in Selamber, Kucha, Gamo Gofa, Ethiopia, and currently resides in Bonga, Kaffa. He is Ethiopian, married, and in good health. He earned a Bachelor of Education in Geography and Environmental Studies from Mekelle University and a Master’s Degree in Population, Environment, and Development from Addis Ababa University. He also completed the Higher Diploma Program at Jimma University.
Mengistu has extensive teaching and leadership experience, including two years in high school, nine years as a college lecturer, and eight years as a university lecturer. He has served in multiple academic and administrative positions such as Department Head, Vice Head, Research and Community Service Coordinator, Director of Freshman Students Coordination Office, Director of Education Quality Enhancement Directorate, and Director of the Center for Let’s Feed Africa. He has also contributed to Ethiopia’s 3rd Census Enumeration and participated in several university committees.
Beyond his academic roles, Mengistu has produced teaching modules, delivered community service by teaching geography in Kaffa Zone high schools, and engaged in humanitarian initiatives by supporting community elders. He is proficient in MS Word, Excel, SPSS, and MORTPAC, and fluent in Amharic, English, and Wolaytigna. Known for his strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, he is highly motivated toward research, community service, and innovation. His hobbies include reading and sharing knowledge on current issues.
