Biography
Tigstu Weldesilassie is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as the Head of the Department of Economics at Bonga University, Ethiopia. He holds a Master of Science in Development Economics from Hawassa University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Wachemo University. With a career spanning roles from Assistant Lecturer to Department Head, Tigstu provides strategic academic leadership, overseeing curriculum development, quality assurance, and departmental research initiatives.
His research expertise lies in development economics, poverty reduction, and sustainable growth, with a particular focus on translating empirical findings into actionable policy recommendations. He is a published author, with notable work in the journal Discover Sustainability (Springer) regarding the impact of agricultural technology adoption on rural livelihoods in Southwest Ethiopia.
Tigstu is a member of the Ethiopia Economic Association and holds several professional certifications, including a Higher Diploma Program (HDP) for teaching and a Master Class for Teaching Online from ASU. His commitment to academic excellence has been recognized with awards for outstanding performance within the College of Business and Economics.
