Biography
My name is Misgun Zewdie, I have an interdisciplinary academic background that combines architectural heritage conservation and management, tourism, hospitality, marketing, and sustainable development, supported by both academic training and research experience. I earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Architectural Heritage Conservation from Mekelle University, where I developed strong theoretical and practical foundations in cultural heritage preservation, documentation, conservation research, and heritage site management. I completed my undergraduate studies with High Honors, achieving an average score of 80/100, which reflects my commitment to academic excellence.
Building on this foundation, I obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in Tourism Marketing and Development from Mekelle University. My graduate studies focused on tourism planning, destination marketing, and sustainable tourism development, with particular emphasis on linking heritage conservation with tourism-led local and community development. This academic training strengthened my interest in inclusive tourism models that balance conservation objectives with socio-economic benefits for local communities.
I also have academic teaching and research experience, having served as a Lecturer and Researcher at Mekelle University. During this period, I taught undergraduate and graduate courses and actively engaged in scholarly research. As part of my academic work, I published a research article in an international peer-reviewed journal on Community-Based Tourism, contributing to academic discussions on sustainable tourism development, community participation, and heritage-based tourism approaches in developing-country contexts.
In addition to my formal degrees, I have pursued continuous professional development through advanced diplomas and professional certifications in Marketing and Business Management, Event Management, Hospitality Management, Digital Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Sales, Customer Service Management, Project Management, and Strategic Management. These qualifications complement my academic background by strengthening my analytical, managerial, and applied research skills, enabling me to bridge academic knowledge with practical implementation in tourism, heritage, and development-oriented initiatives.
