Bonga University, in collaboration with the FDRE Education and Training Authority, is providing training for academic directors, deans, and instructors. The forum was officially opened with a keynote speech by the President of Bonga University, Dr. Degela Ergano.
In his message, the Honorable President recalled the university’s previous approaches to program accreditation and institutional internal evaluation processes. He stated that the university is now working with a sense of ownership, emphasizing that "after a certain period, no program can continue without official accreditation."
The President explained that Bonga University has a better opportunity compared to other institutions relative to its focus areas. He stressed that it is mandatory to utilize this opportunity to get university programs accredited. To this end, he announced that out of the existing 42 programs, the university will focus on securing accreditation for 25 of them, noting that today's training is crucial for this success.
He further noted that institutions cannot continue running unaccredited programs simply because they are government-owned. Therefore, it is essential to operate based on programs that meet international standards. Since institutional self-evaluation and program accreditation are part of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI), he urged participants to view this as a "matter of existence" and to participate actively in the training.
The President extended his gratitude to the senior experts from the Federal Education and Training Authority for coming to train the academic staff and urged instructors to make the best use of this opportunity.
The two-day training focuses on Academic Program Accreditation and Institutional Self-Evaluation (Audit). Today’s session covered the nature and importance of Academic Program Accreditation, as well as detailed points on the procedures higher education institutions must follow regarding accreditation. According to the schedule, the training will continue tomorrow with a focus on Institutional Self-Evaluation.
