Dear Colleagues and Friends, Welcome to Bonga University! We are an institution committed to excellence in teaching and research. Over the next three years, we are strategically working to expand both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as increase our student intake capacity Bonga University is located in the Kaffa zone of Ethiopia—the birthplace of the coffee plant, dating back to around 1000 A.D. The region is home to about 761,000 hectares of natural forest, preserved by the indigenous knowledge of local communities and recognized by UNESCO in 2011 as part of the biosphere reserve.
Kaffa is also known for the Bonga Sheep breed, as well as high-quality honey, spices, and tea plantations. Our location offers exceptional natural and socio-cultural assets that can be further explored and promoted through research and scientific collaboration. As a comprehensive higher education institution, Bonga University must integrate academic, research, and community engagement programs to equip students with creativity and practical skills. In a world undergoing rapid social, economic, and political change, universities must respond effectively to local and global challenges. Bonga University is ready to do just that.
While we promote research across diverse disciplines, we aim to excel particularly in natural resource management, given the region’s rich biodiversity—especially in fauna. Our current challenge is to position Bonga University as a nationally and internationally recognized institution with real societal impact. We are committed to building institutional capacity that supports quality teaching, impactful research, and meaningful community service.
Collaboration is key to our success. We seek strong partnerships with government bodies, businesses, NGOs, and other academic and research institutions, both nationally and internationally. These relationships will help sustain excellence in all our core missions.
Let us commit to building an exciting future for this young and dynamic university. Your continued loyalty, support, and enthusiasm are the foundation of our collective success. I am confident you will be inspired by our journey and the impact we aim to make.
I conclude by declaring our motto: “Together, We Can!”
Welcome to Bonga University.
Yours sincerely,
Degela Ergano Done (Ph.D)
