In his welcoming message, the Vice President for Teaching, Learning, Research, and Community Engagement of Bonga University, Dr. Kelelew Adissu, highlighted the strong culture of hospitality of the Kaffa people.
He further emphasized that Ethiopian unity is strengthened through such initiatives and expressed his appreciation to members of the Covenant Families who came from various areas of Bonga Town. He also urged them to provide all necessary support to the students entrusted to their care.
Mr. Atnafu Asfaw, who previously led the program and is currently Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate, explained the concept of the Covenant Family initiative. He noted that it is a good practice adopted from the experience of the University of Gondar and emphasized its significant contribution to strengthening family bonds and building national peace.
Accordingly, he stated that Bonga University and the Bonga Town Administration have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Peace.
Following this, the process of linking students with their respective Covenant Families and the oath-taking ceremony were carried out.
Finally, in a message delivered by Mr. Getenet Gebre-Mikael, Special Assistant to the Office of the Vice President for Teaching, Learning, and Research of Bonga University, heartfelt gratitude was extended to all individuals and institutions that contributed to the success of the event. In particular, parents who accepted students as Covenant Family members were given a message of trust and responsibility, marking the conclusion of the program.
